Chixelate's Guide to 2014

January 20, 2014

2013 came and went in the blink of an eye! Even though we wish we could re-live some fantastic moments (like when Loki took control of 6,000 people at Comic-Con), all good things must eventually come to an end. However, that’s not to say that there aren’t some awesome things to look out for in 2014!

1. Nerdy CalendarsFirst things first, you can’t start the new year without the appropriate calendar. I'm always looking forward to seeing what new designs come out! For the past three years my go-to calendar has been… The Vampire Diaries. These calendars are awesome not just because they’re Vampire Diaries themed, but because they are just so friggin’ gorgeous.

And the best part about pop culture calendars is that there are all sorts to suit your latest addiction. If you want to pledge your allegiance to your beloved shows or movies, you can find these at your local bookstore or if you’re lazy like me, you can get them on Amazon.

2. San Diego Comic-Con 2014

Can you believe we're only 6 months away from SDCC?? Although there have not been any ticket announcements yet, Comic-Con International did post a related update on their blog as to why we are experiencing a delay in sales this year. For those that are eligible for early-bird purchase, make sure to keep a lookout in your email for the announcement!

3. Movies
There are a butt load of films everyone needs to be watching this year. Talks of these upcoming releases are already starting to hit the surface and you can bet the cast and crew for most of these larger releases will be making appearances at your local nerd convention. Better mark these in your calendar! (I've also included a few non nerd-related movies that are a must-see)
  •     300 3/7/14
  •     Veronica Mars 3/14/14
  •     Divergent 3/21/14
  •     Captain America 4/4/14
  •     Amazing spiderman 2 5/2/14
  •     Godzilla 5/16/14
  •     X-Men: Days of Future Past 5/23/14
  •     Maleficent 5/30/14
  •     The Fault in Our Stars 6/6/14
  •     How to Train your Dragon 2 6/13/14
  •     Transformers 4 6/27/14
  •     Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 7/11/14
  •     Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 8/8/14
  •     The Boxtrolls 9/26/14
  •     Gone Girl 10/3/14
  •     Hunger Games: Mockingjay 11/21/14
  •     Hobbit: there and Back again 12/17/14
  •     Into the Woods 12/25/14
4.  Games
Walking Dead: Season 2
My co-founder, Ashley, definitely seems excited for this one to come out. Although I'm a huge fan of the show, I probably won't be getting into the game since I seriously freak out when I play scary games. I nearly peed myself trying to get through Slender Man and worse—Asylum: The Dark Descent. The release date for Walking Dead is still TBA.

Some other non-scary games that I'm dying to play:
5. Television
Speaking of The Walking Dead, episode 9 of Season 4 is set to debut on February 9! Some other favorites of mine include:
  •     Game of Thrones: Season 4--4/9/14
  •     True Blood (FINAL SEASON)--TBA June 2014

Not to mention all the shows that I already watch...

6. Ashley's Menu of Nerdy Foods

As the baker of our lovely partnership, Ashley has taken it upon herself to create some geek-themed goods for this year. Though the menu will be exclusively on Chixelate, we still consider it one of the awesome things to look out for in 2014 ;)
  •     Totoro Macarons
  •     Adventure Time Bacon Pancakes
  •     Portal Cake
  •     Bleeding Heart Cupcakes (Hannibal)
This is definitely not a complete list of all the awesome things expected to happen in 2014, but at least it gives you a reason to drag yourself out of your coffin every night and in front of a computer/television screen!
