Palestfest Review: The Originals/The Vampire Diaries

April 13, 2014

Let me just start off by saying that the Paleyfest was amazing! Despite the fact that I was super hungry during the whole panel, I thoroughly enjoyed it! I laughed. I cried. And I watched some pretty good previews of the episodes still to come!

The event consisted of two panels combined into one: The Originals and the Vampire Diaries. To be honest, I have only seen one episode of The Originals and I’m pretty sure that I spoiled a lot of things for myself by going to that panel. The series sounds like an interesting concept and I was a fan of the Originals when they used to be part of the Vampire Diaries cast. My favorite in particular was Rebekah, played by the beautiful Claire Holt, who is actually LEAVING the show. Hmm… do I still want to watch it after hearing that? I’m a bit indecisive. During the panel she did not make any allusions as to when she would be coming back or whether she might be going back to Mystic Falls (i.e. back to the Vampire Diaries cast), so it seems like she will be gone for an indefinite sabbatical.

The Vampire Diaries portion of the panel only consisted of the three main actors: Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder, as well as the front runner, Julie Plec, and writer, Caroline Dries. Having almost finished their fifth season, the cast and creators actually had some pretty interesting topics to talk about, including whether a Stefan and Caroline relationship would happen, the consequences of the ripper virus, and probably the most interesting one: what happens to Katherine! If you’re up to date with the current episodes, you’ll see that that a cure was created for the ripper virus already, but we still don’t know whether Stefan and Caroline will have their moment or where the hell Katherine flew off to at the end of the episode “Gone Girl.” Unfortunately, no answers were given during the panel. The creators left these pretty open because at this point, anything can happen. I’m a strong believer that Katherine will definitely be coming back and that Stefan and Caroline will not end up together. After all, the doppelganger story says Stefan and Elena are destined to end up together, right?

At the end of the night, the audience was given an opportunity to get some autographs and to take pictures with their favorite celebs. I was not able to score any signatures due to the huge crowd of girls that rushed to the front of the stage! Instead, I snagged shots of the stage from my seat on the 2nd floor.

Hopefully I’ll be able to go back to a panel someday. Until then, I’ll have to settle for Comic-Con ;)
